Schumacher family planning legal action over AI ‘interview’ with F1 great
Reports suggest that Michael Schumacher's family intends to take legal action against a German weekly magazine regarding an "interview" with the seven-time Formula One champion that was fabricated using artificial intelligence. When asked to comment, a Schumacher family spokesperson referred to the reports of the impending legal action.
Michael Schumacher, the legendary Ferrari driver, has not made any public appearances since he sustained a severe brain injury while on a family vacation in the French Alps in December 2013.
A recent issue of Die Aktuelle featured a beaming Schumacher on the front cover with the headline "Michael Schumacher, the first interview," which was later revealed to be fictitious. The subheading stated: "It sounded deceptively real." The article contained alleged statements by Schumacher about how his life had significantly changed and how he lay comatose for months following the accident, letting his body heal. However, it was discovered that these statements were generated by AI. Since the incident, Schumacher's family has been tight-lipped about his condition, including who can visit him or divulge any details about it.
In a 2021 Netflix documentary, Corinna Schumacher shared that they live together at home and are doing everything possible to help Michael recover and feel the love of their family. She emphasised Michael's desire for privacy, saying they are trying to carry on as a family and protect his private life. Mick Schumacher, Michael's son, is currently the reserve driver for Mercedes in Formula One after losing his seat at Haas last season.
