Stifling Innovation: US Federal Copyright Office’s Discriminatory Decision Against AI-Generated Works
US copyright against AI- produced material
Artificial intelligence, known as AI, is about to change a number of industries. However, the US Federal Copyright Office threatens to limit the AI progress. In particular, it doesn’t want to approve copyright for algorithms like ChatGPT. Many people think that this practice will hinder progress. .
The decision to stop the copyright by AI is a concerning one. The regulator explains the decision by outlining that a human authorship is needed, whereas AI is an algorithm, which may work independently and can not score as a human. The problem with this argument is that it does not consider the genesis of AI and its use as a tool.
AI is capable of making amazing works of art, music, etc. AI is a great tool coming from human ideas and creativity. Sometime AI-produced material is of comparison to human creation, so it is unfair to decline the AI-works same protection as human-produced works, especially since the human used the former for their content.
Therefore, denial of AI-produced works copyright security will result in limitation of their power and use, let alone challenges for creators to monetize their production. This will lead to limitation of resources for continuous AI research and development and slower progress and innovation, which may change a big number of industries.
This may lead to situations, where artists are no longer paid for their works, because anyone can do it.
No protection of AI-based works will lead to copyright infringement here and there. Artists won’t be able to make money off of it, which will discourage creativity and harm the artists.
